SDO began in North-East England in 2003. It continues today as an ecumenical devotional society whose Members pray a common Office of Matins, Vespers and Compline, but who plan their Bible-reading individually.
There is no hierarchy, headquarters or habit; no central enrolment procedure, fee or subscription. Anyone willing to take the initiative can arrange local SDO gatherings for prayer and fellowship. It is equally possible to be an independent Member pursuing the way in solitude.
If you are settled in a secular life, but the call of the desert is there, or you would simply like to bring more discipline to your prayer and Scripture reading, joining the Society could be the answer.
Everything you need, apart from a Bible, is contained in the SDO Handbook.
